Check out "Ashkenazy plays Chopin Etude op.10-1" at 1:08. As soon as Jarrett's intro started I thought I've heard this before. It was really bugging me for a couple of minutes then it hit me. I wonder if Jarrett thought of the etude as he improvised.

His intro sounds a lot like Chopin's Etude op.10, no.1. especially at 0:35. The melody in the left hand is almost identical. |
