I don't know if your sorcerers were still alive at turn 5-6, but couldn't you have run them up and tried to lash him off the objective?

Units that are pinned/gone to ground still score, units falling back count as destroyed for all game purposes.

Even if a troop unit is falling back it can still score and contest. I dont think there is anything that can keep a troop unit from being scoring.
